Department of Foreign Philology and Translation

Is the graduating department and prepares specialists in the specialty "Philology".

Currently, the department is headed by the doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor Bakhov Ivan Stepanovich.

The main activity of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation is aimed at ensuring the training of specialists of educational levels "Bachelor" and "Master" in the educational program "Philology. Germanic languages (translation).”

Graduates of the department successfully work in the scientific, literary and publishing, educational fields; in teaching, research and administrative positions in higher education institutions, in the media, Internet marketing, in various foundations, unions, humanitarian funds, museums, art and cultural centers, in various sectors of the economy where services are required to create, analyze, translate texts.

Priority tasks of the department:

  • training of highly qualified philologists-translators,
  • improving the teaching of foreign languages, taking into account pan-European recommendations on language education,
  • ensuring the maximum adaptation of students' language training to the conditions of future activities.

The department also provides the teaching of English, German, French and Spanish for IAPM students of educational levels “bachelor” and “master” of full-time and part-time forms of study in all areas and specialties, training in which is carried out at the Academy.

  • simultaneous translation;
  • machine translate;
  • translation analysis of the text;
  • translation history;
  • genre theory of translation;
  • information technology in translation;
  • theory of intercultural communication ;
  • topical issues of translation;
  • legal translation;
  • translation of conferences;
  • semantic-stylistic problems of translation;
  • business foreign language (English, German, French).

The Department provides courses of English, German, French and Spanish for specific purposes and an Academic Foreign Language for postgraduate and doctoral students.

Research areas:

Research interests of the Department scholars are united by a common focus: Research and teaching foreign languages to implement macroeconomic strategy the European vector of Ukraine’s economic development: conceptual framework, challenges and contradictions in the following main areas of research:

  • linguistics
  • translation
  • methods of teaching foreign languages
  • pedagogy

Students realize their research interests in several ways:

  • Participate in student scientific circles.
  • Participate in competitions of student research papers.
  • Participate in scientific conferences.
  • Participate in the research work of the Academy and the institute.
  • Participate in the language Olympiads.

The topic of thesis (projects) is developed in accordance with the research topic “Problems of Translation Studies in the Context of Globalization Changes in Society”. The head of research is Professor I. Bakhov, Head of the Department, Guarantor of the educational program.

Students discuss topical problems of philological science at the Students’ Scientific Circle “Per magisterium ad perfectum”, headed by Tatiana Voitko, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor.

Publishing activities

In the period from 2005 to 2019, were published 7 monographs, 1 manual, 24 study guides and glossaries, over 100 articles in Ukrainian and foreign journals.

The department collaborates with existing in Ukraine branches of such well-known institutions as Linguist, America House and the British Council, Goethe Institut, Pearson Office.

The department hosts meetings of the Speaking club with the participation of the native speaker, Cindy Happiette.

Academic mobility of the department.

The Departments liaise with the National Aviation University, Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University, and the National University of Bioresources and Environmental Management, and exchange professors for professional disciplines upon invitation.

EDUCATION AND CAREER

Graduated from the Izmail State Pedagogical Institute with a degree in Foreign Language in 1980. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 2017. Awarded The title of professor of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation was in 2018.

Fluent in English and EFL teaching methodology, engaged in translation activities, actively participates in IAPM international projects

Since 2013, he headed the Department of Foreign Languages, since 2017 – the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation. Since 2009 – Director of the Center for Translation and Language Studies.

Research interests: translation studies, modern methods of teaching a foreign language in a professional direction, the use of the latest technologies in teaching foreign languages.

Михайленко Валерий Васильевич – профессор кафедры иностранной филологии и перевода.

Образование, карьера – Окончил Пятигорский госпединститут иностранных языков (1968г.) По специальности «Английский язык».

В 1973 году защитил диссертацию на соискание ученой степени кандидата филологических наук в Московском государственном педагогическом университете.

В 2002 году защитил диссертацию на соискание ученой степени доктора филологических наук в Пятигорском государственном университете, в 2012 году в Киевском национальном университете имени Тараса Шевченко. Тема докторской диссертации – «Парадигма императива в древнегерманских языках»;

Доцент Ивано-Франковского пединститута им. Василия Стефаника (1976-1980). Заведующий кафедрой английского языка Черновицкого национального университета им. Юрия Федьковича (1980-2008); Заведующий кафедрой современных европейских языков Буковинского государственного финансово-экономического университета (Черновцы, 2008-2013). Профессор кафедры перевода и филологии Ивано-Франковского университета права имени Даниила Галицкого с 2015г.

Руководитель научной работы аспирантов (16 защищенных кандидатских диссертаций), магистрантов, студентов. Консультант докторантов; рецензент, научных и прикладных работ; оппонент; Член Ученого совета по защите диссертаций Киевского городского педагогического университета с 2015; к 2008г. – Черновицкого национального университета имени Юрия Федьковича.

Участник многочисленных конференций – отечественных и зарубежных; автор более 500 публикаций по германистике, типологии, семантике, грамматике, переводу и методике преподавания, составитель словарей и пособий.

Член редколлегии научных вестников ЧНУ, БДФЕУ, Прикарпатского НУ, Международного сборника научных записок по культурологии (Самара, РФ). Читал лекции, переводил; выступал с докладами, проходил стажировку в университетах Канады и США.

В 1980-90-х годах внес значительный вклад в развитие отношений между Украиной и Канадой, а также между Украиной и Соединенными Штатами Америки; в начало связей между украинскими Черновцами и городами Саскатаун ​​(Канада), Солт-Лейк-Сити и Лок-Хейвен (США). Почетный гражданин города Лок-Хейвен, штат Пенсильвания.

Научные интересы: профессиональные языки, терминоведение, германистика, концептология, переводоведение. Автор более 500 научных публикаций.

Награды и отличия. Знак «Отличник образования Украины», Почетная грамота Министерства образования Украины, Благодарность Министерства финансов Украины. Награжден Международной медалью почета Американского библиографического института, 2003г. (World Medal Of Honor, American Bibliograpical Institute, USA, 2003); звание «Человек года - 2009» (Man Of The Year 2009 representing Ukraine).
