Kruty Heroes Day

31 January 2019 15:03

At the Askold Cemetery
They were buried
The thirty martyrs-ukrainian,
The glorious young ...

At the Askold Cemetery
The Ukrainian bloom! -
By the bloody roadway
For us to follow in the world.

Onto who has dared to rise
The betrayer's hand?
Sun is blooming, wind is playing
And the Dnieper-river ...

Against who has Cain committed?
Oh, Lord, punish them!
Over everything they loved
It was their loved land.

They died in the New Testament
With the glory of the saints.
At the Askold Cemetery
They were buried.

On January 29, Ukrainians celebrate the events of the end of January 1918, when young defenders of the Ukrainian People's Republic entered their heroic page in the history of the Ukrainian liberation movement - a battle near Kruty.

It was then that in Chernihiv region, not far from the Kruty railway station, volunteer Student Kurin, consisting of 300 boys: students of the University of St. Volodymyr, the newly formed Ukrainian People's University and high school students of the Kiev high schools, defending the right of the Ukrainian people to live in their own state, entered into an unequal battle with the Bolshevik forces, whose number was about 5 thousand. The battle lasted five hours. Police were captured and then shot 28 boys. At the cost of his life, young heroes stopped the enemy's attack for several days.

Representatives of the Academy of Students Besarab Taras and Grishak Anastasia, paying tribute to the memory of the hero's deeds of Krut, took part in the memorial prayer for the dead and laid flowers at the cross-monument at Askold's grave.
