Eternal Ukrainian Amulets

16 May 2019 13:09

To the International Embroidery Day, students of the Danubian branch visited the branch №4 of the library for adults, where a meeting with crafts master Lyubov Vasylivna Dudina was held.

The Embroidery Day is an all-Ukrainian holiday, which is intended to save the original folk traditions of creating and wearing ethnic Ukrainian ethnic embroidered clothes and popularizing it among the youth and the population of the state in general. On this day, every Ukrainian wears embroidery and goes to work, to university, school or kindergarten in it.

The day of embroidery is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of May. The holiday is original and self-sufficient, not tied to any state or religious holiday.

The history of the Ukrainian embroidery has its roots in ancient times, when our ancestors were pagans and believed in the powerful force of nature. Ukrainian people expressed their worship in unusual art - embroidery. Through our embroidered patterns and ornaments, our ancestors passed the family signs that were kept in the family. Each genus in ancient times had its hereditary symbols.

Today, Ukrainian embroidery is beautiful and relevant. The modern embroidered shirt is a combination of style and age traditions. Colored clothing, created in the Ukrainian style, gives birth to a feeling of kinship with its people, promotes festive mood.

In this way, we all express love for our homeland, the pride of our national affiliation.

Ukrainian land is rich in traditions and beliefs, therefore, in the life of the people and to this day, many things have been preserved, which were perceived by our ancestors as amulets. Among them - a doll, but not ordinary, but made by technique "winding" without needle use, hence the name "reel". About the modern authentic doll and its ancient predecessor, they learned from Lyubov V. Dudina, a mistress who has for many years specialized in the manufacture of earings, folk toys (including Ukrainian ones), modern stylized dolls.

In clothing, there are no random elements, all of which are symbolic: the skirt is the earth; shirt - the unity of the past, present and future; a headdress (eyepieces, a scarf or a maiden tape) - a connection to the sky... This tradition is still alive.

But let's not forget that the strongest thing was the word. Thousands of orders and prayers that protected man were made up. This is acode, access to secret powerful energy. The word spoken with love and faith protects.

We are very grateful to the head of the library Svіtlana Petrіvna Kosiychuk for the story of embroidery.
