April 25 students of the Institute of International Education of the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management visited the picturesque corner of Ukraine - the National Dendrological Park "Sofiyivka" in the city of Uman in the Cherkassy region.

The dendrological park is widely known far beyond Ukraine as one of the most outstanding creations of the world garden and park art of the late 18th and first half of the 19th century. Once in the museum of wildlife students immediately realized that the entire territory of the park is like a fairy tale. And not for nothing, after all, according to the idea of the creators Sofiyivka is a graphic illustration of Homer's poems "Iliad" and "Odyssey", where each composition or small architectural form contains a certain idea, expresses the idea of a myth or some event.

After entering the park from the main entrance, the IAPM students were on Kievskaya Street. It is interesting that the towers of the main entrance, built in 1850-1852, survived to this day, together with the gates and wicket. Walking along the central avenue the students could admire the marsh cypress (double-row taxon), which was planted as far back as 1891.

The Uman dendrological park surprised the students with its beautiful views, including the Grotto of Diana, the Lake of Geneva, unique trees (oak, which is more than 300 years old, spruce growing upwards, tulip tree, just blossomed), glade, A baton is the river Kamenka. Sofiyivka struck and its features. One of the most popular places in the park is the Island of Love, a legend tells that it was in that place that Sofia, after seeing part of the park, presented Count Pototsky with an ardent kiss. To the Island of Love lies a wooden bridge on which the lovers leave their initials, and through him the guys carry their ladies' hearts in their arms.

A mysterious place in Sofiyivka is also the "Stone of Desires" that is in the cave: they say if you bypass this stone, touching it with your hand, not letting go, and at that time make a wish - it will come true. Therefore, the Maupovians did not neglect this legend and each made his own wish.

During the excursion, students met a large number of women from a small source called "Silver Sources". According to the legends, women who wanted to get pregnant drank water from there, and after a while a miracle happened.

Also, people could admire a large number of statues and busts of the gods and thinkers of Ancient Greece, among them: statues of Paris, Cupid, Orpheus, Venus, busts of Socrates, Homer, Aristotle and many others.

Enjoying the great beauty of the park and the romantic atmosphere, foreign students returned with new forces to the Academy.
