PROVOST FOR INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS IGOR PILYAEV TOOK PART IN THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC-EXPERT CONFERENCE

On October 7-8th  2010 Provost for International Relations, head of a department of country studies of the IAPM, doctor of political sciences Igor Pilyaev at the invitation of Manfred Warner Foundation took part in the International scientific-expert conference “Ukraine – Lost in Transition?” devoted to the perspectives of the European integration and social-political development of Ukraine after the political authorities changes.

The conference took place on the basis of the Central European University in Budapest. Many authoritative scientists and experts from Brussels (European Union and NATO), from a number of Central and Eastern European countries took part in this event. Namely, Ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary Yuriy Mushka, ex-minister of foreign affairs professor Peter Balazh, deputy state secretary, political director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Peter Shtaray, famous scientists from Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Russia and other countries were the speakers of the conference. Scientific-expert community of Ukraine was represented by the famous political scientists Vadym Karasyov, Sergiy Fesenko, Oleg Kokoshynskiy, Iryna Onyshchenko and others.

I.S. Pilyaev presented reports at two subject meetings of the conference “Ukraine in Europe” and “Democracy and civil society – minorities and majorities, human rights and media”. As Pilyaev stated, Ukraine is already recognized subject of European relations and today it is impossible to talk about Europe, architecture of European security not taking into account the role and place in these processes of our state. It is Ukraine that due to its strategic geopolitical role can play a decisive role in reunion of Europe around values that are vitally important for the safety and prosperity of economic and democratic projects. In this respect, the speaker outlined the importance of the new paradigm of foreign politics formation of Ukraine, which would foresee constructive integrating role of our country into Great Europe, connection of Euro-integration vector with strategic partnership on post-soviet Eurasian space, in particular active usage of formats of Council of Europe and SCO.

As I.S. Pilyaev noted, that in independent Ukraine during three of the five Presidential elections, the candidate from the opposition won. And this is not accidentally, but a natural consequence of inner ideological and ethno cultural pluralism of Ukrainian social medium.

At the conference active, fruitful and constructive discussions took place, exchanging ideas on the future of Ukraine in frames of the integration process on the territory of Europe and Eurasia.
