Mertsishor — the symbol of spring and hope

28 February 2019 12:08

The arrival of spring in our multinational region is increasingly associated with traditions and customs of peoples living in the south of Ukraine - Bessarabia. The 1st of March is celebrating. On this day, people donate to each other little boutonniere in the form of flowers from threads of white and red colors. This decoration, as well as the holiday, is called mertsishor.

A good way to give mertsishor has expanded its horizons and acquired new meanings. Mertsishor give each other love, marriage, colleagues, friends. Children give mertsishor to their parents, teachers, brothers and sisters. With this noble and beautiful symbol, we express our respect and love, the wishes of health and prosperity, peace and friendship.

On the eve of the traditional holiday in the walls of the Prydjuaysky branch of the IAPM, an amazing master class "Mertsishor - a symbol of spring and hope" was held, which was performed by Nina Grigorieva, a fashion designer and employees of the branch library number 4 of the Central Library.

Leading creative meeting, the head of the library, Svetlana Kosiychuk, prepared an interesting slide story about the history of the jubilee of the spring, since ancient times, when our ancestors in southern Europe considered the beginning of the year March, that is, the arrival of spring and the beginning of the revival of nature. The meeting turned out to be breathtaking and sincere. Participants of the meeting noted that this celebration is noted not only by Bulgarians, Moldovans, Romanians, but also by the entire population of our multinational region.

What stands next to the mertsishor origins, which symbolize the colors of the mertsishor - red and white? Young people became acquainted with the legends of the origin of spring decorations. As usual in legends, the story of the appearance of this wonderful holiday is associated with love and sacrifice. At the meeting, girls and boys once again convinced: good always wins the evil, but good needs to be protected.

The story of Mertsishor's traditions and its symbols were complemented by students. Nina Grigorievna's handicap has shown various variations of budonierki and techniques of manufacturing a wicker of ribbons and threads. Students enthusiastically molded the cute and charming little red-and-white buddhist monks, symbols of the spring awakening of nature, in various ways. At the end of the meeting, librarians Galina Tsibrinya and Natalia Shefova introduced creative young people to the theme exhibition "The Amazing World of Needlework". The master class demonstrated the diversity of traditions and original ideas of young talents.

Mertsishor became for the Danube inhabitants a great spring holiday of peace and friendship, of multinational art, contributing to the mutual enrichment of national cultures.
