Official new partnership between UNESCO and FISU
UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and the International University Sports Federation (FISU) have signed a consultative partnership agreement, a significant step in their long-standing relationship. This partnership will expand joint efforts to promote sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles in university communities around the world.
With this formal partnership, FISU is now able to engage more actively with UNESCO's areas of competence, particularly in the field of sport and physical activity. This new status allows FISU to create more flexible and dynamic collaborations, leveraging its expertise in sport in higher education worldwide. FISU's extensive networks will also play an important role in disseminating information and, where necessary, providing operational capacities for the implementation of UNESCO initiatives.
As part of this partnership, FISU plans to actively promote UNESCO's Fit for Life programme through its network of student sports federations and universities around the world. ‘Fit for Life is a flagship sports initiative to accelerate recovery from COVID-19, promote inclusive support and integrate the political process to improve the well-being of young people around the world. By leveraging its global influence, FISU will help to realise the programme's mission to combat physical inactivity, improve mental health and tackle inequality through sport.
This partnership is an important milestone in the relationship between UNESCO and FISU, as both organisations intend to make a lasting impact on global university sport. Together, UNESCO and FISU will continue to champion the role of sport in building healthy, active and well-rounded university communities around the world.
We would like to remind you that IAPM became the first university in Ukraine to receive the FISU Healthy Campus Platinum Certificate. FISU Healthy Campus is a programme of the International University Sports Federation that supports and develops the promotion of sport among students around the world.
