On October 22, 2024, teachers of the Department of Psychology of the Khmelnytsky Institute of the MAUP held a scientific and practical seminar with training elements “Representational and argumentative forms of speech in academic communication” dedicated to the International Day of Academic Integrity. The seminar was moderated by Valentina Oliinyk, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Psychology at the Khmelnytsky Institute of the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management. Students from various specialties participated in the event: 053 “Psychology,” 081 “Law,” and 072 “Finance, Banking, and Insurance.”

Modern academic communication requires students not only to have in-depth knowledge in their field, but also to be able to present their ideas and research results clearly, logically, and convincingly. In the context of globalization and growing competition in the scientific community, effective presentation and argumentation skills are essential for successful scientific dialogue, publications, and participation in scientific conferences.

This is especially important in the context of the integration of Ukrainian science into the global scientific community, where young people are expected to adhere to high standards of academic ethics, critical thinking, and the ability to defend their own scientific positions. Therefore, teaching representative and argumentative forms of speech is important for the formation of professional competencies among young people, which will increase their competitiveness in the international arena and contribute to the dissemination of Ukrainian science in the world.

The purpose of the event was to develop effective academic communication skills, in particular, mastering various forms of representation and argumentation in written and oral speech, which will contribute to improving the quality of scientific dialogue and presentation of research results.

The seminar covered the main aspects of representational speech, aimed at the objective presentation of information, and argumentative speech, which is used to persuade the audience with evidence and logical reasoning. Participants had the opportunity to practice their skills in constructing effective arguments and improve their ability to present scientific information in a structured and understandable form.

The training part of the event included practical exercises in analyzing arguments and counterarguments, as well as discussions of real-life examples of academic misconduct. Participants exchanged experiences and learned new approaches to constructing convincing arguments, which will contribute to the development of their professional competencies in scientific activity. Students also took an anxiety test. Participants had the opportunity to assess their level of anxiety. This allowed them to focus on the importance of psychological health in the academic environment and highlight the link between emotional state and the quality of communication and learning activities.

The test helped students realize how anxiety can affect their ability to effectively present information and argue their positions. The test results contributed to further discussion of the psychological aspects of learning and the importance of supporting mental health.

Thus, the seminar emphasized the importance of academic integrity as the basis for quality scientific communication and aimed to increase students' level of responsibility in adhering to ethical standards in academic activities.
