The MAUP Institute in Khmelnytskyi hosted a scientific and practical seminar with training elements entitled “War-related sexual violence: principles and support services”
On January 31, 2024, a scientific and practical seminar with training elements entitled “War-related sexual violence: principles and support services” was held as part of the project "Standing Together. Improving the Support System for Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence/CRSV" for full-time psychology students.
The modern world faces many challenges, and one of the most shocking is the problem of sexual violence associated with military conflicts. This problem requires immediate attention and the implementation of effective principles and support services for those who have fallen victim to such barbarism.
Sexual violence during war leaves a deep mark on the psychological state of victims. Developing effective principles and support services is important for overcoming trauma and restoring mental health.
The world must take responsibility for creating support mechanisms, condemning human rights violations, and working together to create a safe world for all, where no one becomes a victim of military violence.
The event was moderated by Svitlana Baranova, lecturer at the Department of Psychology of the Khmelnytsky Institute of the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management; chair of the board of the Parity Charitable Foundation.
The purpose of the event was to inform participants about the dangers of sexual violence during conflict and teach them how to respond to challenges; to develop skills for countering threats and promote a culture of respect for women's health.
The tasks and objectives of the scientific and practical seminar with training elements were:
– to create a well-founded information space designed to understand and effectively address the problems of sexual violence in the context of military conflicts;
– to discuss the principles and development of support services for victims of sexual crimes during war;
– practical training to develop skills for responding to situations of sexual violence.
Growing awareness and understanding of sexual violence in military contexts are important for building support and developing assistance for victims.
This scientific and practical event aims to help train competent specialists who can effectively work in the field of psychological and medical support for victims of sexual violence in military conflicts.
We would like to thank the organizers and participants of the event!
