IAPM Holds Commemorative Events for the Intercession of the Theotokos and Defenders of Ukraine

02 October 2026 15:26

On 1 October 2026, the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management (IAPM) held commemorative events marking the Feast of the Intercession of the Theotokos, Ukrainian Cossacks Day, and the Day of Defenders and Defendresses of Ukraine.

This year, the event was held under enhanced safety requirements. Due to the security situation in the region, the programme took place in the Academy’s shelter. The change of venue did not affect the planned programme, which included the official ceremony, cultural and patriotic activities, and practical workshops.

IAPM Rector, Doctor of Law and Professor Kyrylo Volodymyrovych Muraviov, addressed students, academic staff and guests. In his remarks, he highlighted the significance of the Intercession of the Theotokos and Ukrainian Cossacks Day in Ukrainian cultural tradition, as well as the importance of preserving the memory of those who defend Ukraine’s independence and statehood.

Another part of the event was dedicated to recognising the Academy’s partners involved in initiatives aimed at the patriotic education of young people. The programme was supported by the Centre for Extracurricular Education of the Darnytskyi District of Kyiv, which has been cooperating with IAPM in this area.

Cultural and Patriotic Programme

The main programme combined elements of Ukrainian historical tradition, cultural activities and practical formats of engagement with students.

Participants had the opportunity to watch weapons demonstrations and Cossack activities presented by the Hopak Art Show. A creative workshop on making beeswax candles was also organised for those attending the event.

A separate part of the programme focused on practical activities. Participants took part in archery and throwing-star activities and explored basic tactical medicine techniques. The practical sessions covered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, stabilisation of an injured person, tourniquet application and appropriate actions in potentially dangerous situations.

The format combined elements of Ukrainian tradition with practical skills relevant to safety and responding to emergency situations.

Safety as Part of the Event Format

Taking safety conditions into account remains an important part of organising educational, cultural and extracurricular activities at the Academy.

This year’s event was therefore held in the Academy’s shelter in response to the security situation in the region. The programme was adapted to the available space while maintaining its main activities.

The event dedicated to the Intercession of the Theotokos and the Day of Defenders and Defendresses of Ukraine combined a cultural programme, practical activities and interaction between students and the Academy’s partners.

Such initiatives provide an opportunity to maintain attention to Ukrainian cultural identity and historical traditions while creating an educational environment focused on knowledge, practical skills and the future.
