Oleksandr Marchenko defended Ukraine as a member of the 72nd Black Cossacks Brigade. He received the call sign "Kamenyar". He was killed on 6 March 2022 in the village of Moshchun, repelling an attack by Russian invaders on Kyiv. On that day, Oleksandr Marchenko, along with three other soldiers, covered the retreat of their comrades.
On 28 July 2022, one of the streets of Bila Tserkva was named after Oleksandr Marchenko.
