"AIDS is not a condemnation but a chronic disease" - Otto Stojka

Dec. 1 the Interregional Academy of Personnel visited the Chief Doctor of the Kyiv City Health Center, MD Otto Stojka. He gave students a lecture on "HIV / AIDS applies to everyone."
"Before this year the first December was World Day of fighting AIDS, but now people's attitude changed and 1st December became a day of solidarity with HIV-positive people" - said in early Stojca.
During the lecture Otto Stojka described the main ways of transmission and infection and debunked myths about domestic routes of virus transmission. So, according to the Chief doctor, AIDS virus can not be transferred by using a common toilet, handshake, kisses, Insect, cough or sneeze. Low probability of transmission - by using someone else's toothbrush, tattooing on the body, using medical instruments in hospitals, acupuncture, and so on. The main two ways of transmission are sexual intercourse and blood transmission.
Stojca also gave statistics on morbidity Ukraine, stressing that there are about 200,000 HIV-positive people in the adult population today, which is about 1%. Doctor said that for these people the main prophylactic is antiretroviral therapy, which prolongs life for decades.
"AIDS - not a condemnation but a chronic disease" - said Otto Aleksandovich.
To a lecture to the World AIDS Day students made newspapers and placed them in all buildings of Academy.
"The main goal of the event is paying students attention to the problem of AIDS and motivation to get tested in order to detect the infection and get treatment if necessary. Today it is necessary to inform young people about the existence and availability of antiretroviral therapy for people living with HIV / AIDS. This knowledge improves tolerance to people living with this diagnosis", - said the head of extracurricular work of IAPM Valentina Slisarenko.
