Christian philosophy of history
At the beginning of the period of Lent spiritual and educational center of Saints Apostles IAPM published the textbook of Archpriest Mikhail Petsy and Archpriest Dionisy Martishia "Modern problems of Christian philosophy of history".
In the book authors discuss one of the most important and urgent problems of modern theological life of the Church - the philosophy of history and the Orthodox eschatology. Attentive philosophical and theological opinion focuses priests on heritage of Orthodox and Western theologians, philosophers concerned with history, political prognostics and Christian eschatology (the study of the world and the ultimate fate).
According to Archimandrite Vladimir (Mogilnyj)
"Archpriest Mikhail Petsy and Fr Dionysius Martyshin are well aware of Christian theology, the social teaching of the Orthodox Church and even the modern trends of geopolitics. In modern world the Christian eschatology plays a less important role than in all previous epochs of human development. Eschatology as a theological discipline is a relatively young science, despite the fact that in general it is Christianity, theology of the Church, it is imbued with eschatological worldview. Christian philosophy of history and eschatology, which the authors discuss in their textbook, show us a different look at the problem of interaction between the Orthodox Church and society, religion and politics, philosophy and theology".
A renowned scholar, priest Pavel Bochkov, Doctor of Theology, PhD, Professor of Church history of Chernivtsi Orthodox Theological Institute gave his review on the "Modern problems of Christian philosophy of history":
"Undoubtedly, the deep philosophical thought authors are stunningly modern and relevant for the church science. Priests take into account all the major theological trends in this, I hope that the book will interest a wide range of readers and will be useful not only for students of higher educational institutions, but also for pupils of theological schools, all those interested in modern problems of the Orthodox Church, society and the state.
The modern world aspires to a living, modern, understandable Christian word about the present and future of the Church. Search for the Kingdom of God and the spiritual existence of the Orthodox Christian in the circumstances of modern civilization are the main subjects of the authors. Unfortunately, such studies are in short supply in the modern church literature.
You can not talk with the student about eschatology, purpose, spiritual meaning of the last days of human history and Christian doctrine as a whole in the archaic language of the past. History of the Orthodox Church is very interesting, but also very complex and multifaceted.
Thoughts of modern philosopher, thinker who studies the problem of religion in society, which are no less important for the formation of dialogue between the Church and science. Doctor of Philosophy, Head of the Philosophy Department of the Aliev Azerbaijani-Ukrainian Institute of Social Sciences and Self-government Melkov Yuri Alexandrovich says:
"Textbook of Archpriest Michael Petsy and Archpriest Dionisy Martishin is devoted to topical issues of today's philosophy of history, allowing to look at the problems from the point of view of Christian philosophy of history. Heuristic this view, different emphasis on the eschatological aspect of philosophical understanding of historical process is the ability to pay attention primarily to valuation and semantic dimension of history in general and futurology in particular, thus opening up new prospects for mutual enrichment of religion and science, at the present stage of its development extends to recognition of the need to consider the meanings and values".
Note that currently the fundamental importance is development of new textbooks and methodological support of students. It is therefore understandable that the scientific and the spiritual life of IAPM has its own unique path of development, theological and religious. The present textbook on modern problems of Christian philosophy of history will effectively serve to teachers, graduate students and students of universities in their research activities.
