Pechersk, Podol, upper town - college students attended such historical gems on the occasion of the Day of Kiev.

During the tour students were not only tourists, but also guides. Every part of the city which was attended by students of ELC eas accompanied by a mini-story.

Pechersk: Parks, Presidential Administration of Ukraine and the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

Students talked a lot about Pechersk . First of all, it is famous for beautiful parks on the Dnieper slopes. Secondly, Pechersk district is the political heart of Ukraine, because here stand a lot of administrative buildings which housed the Administration of President of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian Government and the Ministry. However, the jewel of this area is one of the greatest shrines of the Orthodox world - Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. By the way, during the trip the students of college told an interesting historical fact that the actual name "Pechersk" comes from the caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra since distant 1051 year!

Podol: legend Andrew's Descent

Guides said that Podol has been a low-lying part of the historical city center, it is considered to be the oldest district of artisans and river, because it stretches along the right bank of the Dnieper and Kiev harbor. However, as students noted, there are disadvantages in this arrangement, because Podol can be flooded. Here monuments of architecture of XII, XVI-XIX centuries have preserved. The most popular are Kontraktova square where almost every house is a separate monument, the house of Peter I, the old building of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and of course, Andrew's descent. Students remembered the legend, according to which the place where Dnepr now flows, once was the sea. When St. Andrew came to Kiev and built on the hill where now stands St. Andrew's Church, all the sea went down. But some part of it remained hidden under the mountain.

"Today, St. Andrew's Church has no bells because, according to legend, at the first impact water would awake and flood not only Kyiv, but also the whole Left Bank", - said guides.

Upper City or Old Kiev

Old Kiev remains the historical core of the capital. In times of Kievan Rus' there appeared the first school for girls. There were several princely palaces. And in the XVII century in the Old Kiev appeared suburb, home to the army. Today, this area is the business and the tourist center of Kiev. In the Old Kiev one can find Museum of History of Ukraine, St Sophia Museum-Reserve, spiritual heritage museum. And the area near St. Andrew's Church is declared a nature reserve.

Therefore, on the Day of Kyiv students celebrated and also spiritually enriched, replenished their treasury of knowledge about the capital of Ukraine: "What you do not love My Kyiv!"
