Peace Corps in Ukraine is a US government agency whose activities are aimed at strengthening peace and friendship between the peoples of the world. Under the Community Development project, American volunteers have been living and working together with Ukrainians for two years, while sharing valuable experience. This enhances mutual understanding between Americans and Ukrainians. Now the mission of the US Peace Corps in Ukraine is the largest. More than 300 volunteers work in different regions of the country.

Khmelnitsky joins the project for the second time, which implements the US Peace Corps in Ukraine. Jody Serrano, Crystal Kotovsky-Edmunds and Randy Schafer arrived in Khmelnitsky in October 2019, they will help Khmelnitsky to develop education, culture and the environment.

Volunteers will work in Khmelnitsky for two years. In accordance with the requirements of the United States Peace Corps, a volunteer must live in a Ukrainian family, learn about Ukrainian culture, customs and traditions.

The project provides that living and daily communication of the volunteer with members of the Ukrainian family will help him better adapt to national customs, as well as learn the language faster. This experience is valuable for both Ukrainians and Americans.

At the invitation of the head of the department of fundamental training Savchuk Lyudmila Aleksandrovna, volunteer Randy Shafer visited the Khmelnitsky Institute of IAPM.

During a meeting with students, Randy spoke about her three-month stay in Ukraine and plans for the future.

Randy Schafer already works as an English teacher in the gymnasium №2 in Khmelnitsky. Since 1985, the gymnasium has been a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools project. Randy came to Khmelnitsky from Chicago, where she was executive editor of the «Chicago Tribune».
