International cooperation
Since its inception, the Academy's international cooperation has been aimed at integrating into the European and global higher education space, identifying strategic partners and priority regions where there is a market demand for specialists with higher education with Ukrainian and international diplomas.
This integration consists of establishing partnerships with higher education institutions abroad, creating educational, scientific and cultural projects, international programmes in the field of higher education and science, as well as attracting foreign citizens and foreigners of Ukrainian origin to the Academy's student body with the aim of promoting Ukrainian higher education in the international community.
In the context of the strategic development of international educational activities, the Academy pays great attention to such a promising, relevant and popular form of learning as distance education. One of the priority areas in the field of distance education is the development of technological innovations. Telecommunications contribute to the expansion of the educational space, its globalisation, and the provision of educational services regardless of territorial and national borders. In turn, technological innovations contribute to the development of informal education, i.e. the provision of educational services by social institutions for which education is not the main goal.
This new model of education eventually became known as open education. The basis for the development of this system was and remains one of the main principles of a democratic society – the free development of the individual. Open education is characterised primarily by freedom of choice of place and open planning of study; freedom of choice of time and pace of study, access to all levels of education, and the movement of knowledge sources to the individual.
One of the most promising ways to implement the ideas of open education is to introduce a distance learning system using Internet technologies. It is a complex of educational services provided to a wide range of people in the country and abroad through a specialised educational information environment based on means of remote exchange of educational information (satellite television, radio, computer communications, etc.).
The Academy's international activities to establish foreign educational units began in 1999. Since mid-1999, the Academy has signed more than 40 agreements on cooperation in the field of open education with universities and educational institutions in Poland, Moldova, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Latvia, the Czech Republic, China, the United States and other countries. Throughout its illustrious history, the IAPM has trained qualified specialists from over 40 countries around the world. The largest number of students came from Latvia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, China, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Macedonia, Sweden, France, Israel, Turkey, Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Ecuador, Peru, and Tanzania.
A separate page in the history of MAUP's international activities in the period from 1999 to 2014 was the organisation of the successful work of many educational units abroad — in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Bulgaria, Spain, Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Over the years, more than 9,000 students have successfully obtained higher education in these departments. Every year, more than 1,500 new students join the Academy's foreign departments.
In the period leading up to 2020, the Academy reformed its international activities in line with the current challenges of the academic environment. The groundwork was laid for the development of new projects with foreign universities, foreign stakeholders, international organisations and projects. During the quarantine restrictions of 2020-2021, these developments made it possible to quickly transform the foundations of international cooperation using modern digital tools for international communication and means of implementing the educational process.
The Academy is a member of the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI) and one of the signatories of the SDG Accord. Participation in these programmes allows the Academy to compare itself with its peers, learn and share best practices in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Academy is the only higher education institution in Ukraine to receive the Platinum Certificate of the FISU Healthy Campus Programme (FISU, French: Federation International du Sport Universitaire, English: International University Sports Federation). Currently, only 57 universities in the world have this level of certification. Based on 100 criteria developed by leading global experts, universities are assessed in seven areas: physical activity and sport; nutrition; disease prevention; mental and social health; risk behaviour; environment, sustainable development and social responsibility; healthy campus management.
It was a great honour for the entire Academy team to have our efforts recognised in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024 and 2025, according to which the Academy ranks among the top 1,000 higher education institutions in the world and second among higher education institutions in Ukraine.
