In March 2022, during the full-scale Russian invasion, he organised the defence of the settlement of Mariinka in Donetsk region. They stopped the enemy's advance to the southeastern outskirts of the city, destroyed two tanks and two armoured personnel carriers. Due to the attack of the enemy's superior forces, and in order to level the defence line and minimise personnel losses, they decided to retreat to the second line of defence. The next day, under his leadership, a counter-offensive by combined units of mechanised battalions began to retake the positions they had been forced to abandon. It ended in success, and the temporarily lost positions were returned to the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
