Environmental Aspects of Sustainable Development

Interregional Academy of Personnel Management conducts courses "Environmental Aspects of Sustainable Development".

Interregional Academy of Personnel Management provides mandatory annual dedicated training on environmental aspects of sustainability for faculty and professional staff members.

Since 2022, the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management has been collaborating and partnering with several local and global NGOs on climate adaptation, including those that provide outreach and education programs for our community. This cooperation enables us to enhance both our learning and our impact in advancing sustainability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This partnership is integrated into the education and training of students and staff through:

  • understanding the causes and consequences of climate change;
  • identifying and implementing concrete adaptation solutions, such as climate risk management, strengthening territorial resilience, and developing professional practices for environmental protection and climate adaptation.

Faculty and professional staff from other higher education institutions are also invited to participate.

Students who choose this course will receive the corresponding 7 ECTS credits.

Coaches of courses "Environmental Aspects of Sustainable Development" in Interregional Academy of Personnel Management":

Locally, the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management collaborates with the NGO Ridne Misto Moie, a community-interest organization that leads the city’s environmental protection and resilience agenda. The Academy partners with this NGO in the field of education and public awareness for the local community on issues of environmental protection and climate adaptation.

Together with NGO “Ridne Misto Moie”, the Academy implements a certified educational program titled “Environmental Aspects of Sustainable Development” for staff and students of higher education institutions, representatives of other NGOs active in the field of environmental protection, and members of the local community. This program equips participants with knowledge and practical tools addressing both global environmental challenges and the environmental problems of Ukraine and its regions, as well as strategies for climate adaptation.

Every year, in October-November, the certified educational program “Environmental Aspects of Sustainable Development” is held. In 2024, more than 100 students and about 20 lecturers and administrative staff completed the program. The training sessions were focused on environmental protection strategies and climate adaptation.

The teaching and training team included lecturers from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Management, Economics and Business, the Institute of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management, researchers from the Research Center for Environmental Safety and Sustainable Development, trained graduates of the Academy, and members of the NGO Ridne Misto Moie.”

In 2024, awareness-raising program “Environmental Aspects of Sustainable Development”, organized jointly with NGOs on environmental protection and climate adaptation, included the following:

l  around twenty lecturers, researchers, and administrative staff participated in awareness programs to integrate climate adaptation aspects into their professional practice and research projects;

the Sustainability Committee of the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management participated in the program to further integrate environmental protection and climate adaptation issues into the Academic Strategy;

l  members of the academic community from other higher education institutions were invited to attend training sessions and seminars to promote awareness of environmental protection and climate adaptation within and beyond their institutions.

This educational program and the related outreach activities, developed in direct partnership with the NGO Ridne Misto Moie, contribute to building a community capable of anticipating and responding to the impacts of environmental challenges and advancing climate adaptation through the development and implementation of practical measures.

The training of specialists in the field of environmental aspects of sustainable development aims to provide students with theoretical knowledge and develop their practical skills to work out and justify specific proposals on the principles of rational use of natural and anthropogenic ecosystems, the basics of current environmental legislation, principles of sustainable development, and to familiarize them with the ways of interaction in the field of environmental basics and sustainable development of local government, municipal administration, and the work of public organizations

Structure of the training course "Environmental Aspects of Sustainable Development":

Module 1. Theoretical foundations of general ecology. Conditions, factors, resources. Environmental factors. Natural conditions and resources.

Module 2. Global problems of environmental disturbance. The concept of ecosystem.

Module 3. Conceptual framework for sustainable development.

Module 4. System of global dimensions of sustainable development. Global Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Module 5. Sustainable Development Strategy of Ukraine until 2030.

Module 6. Environmental problems of Ukraine and its regions.

Module 7. Measuring sustainable development (indicators and indices).

Assessment and Certification
The assessment is conducted through the international platform Sulitest.

Duration and Certification
Duration: 210 hours / 7 ECTS credits
Upon successful completion, participants receive an international Sulitest certificate and a certificate issued by the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management.
