URBAN BEEKEEPING PROGRAM
The Academy's campus has a large garden called ‘Garden Ukraine’ with many fruit trees, as well as flower beds throughout the campus and a lot of landscaping. In 2021, the Academy's administration decided to install beehives and purchase the necessary beekeeping equipment to ensure that students learn not only in the lecture rooms, but also use their skills in practice.
This programme provides knowledge about bees and the beekeeping industry, as well as the opportunity to learn urban beekeeping techniques.

The training of beekeeping specialists involves a comprehensive approach to learning that includes both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical component begins in mid-February and lasts until mid-April. The practical part begins in mid-April and lasts until the end of June.
Honey pumping continues until the second decade of June.
Theoretical modules:
Module 1: What is urban beekeeping, its features, benefits and challenges. Choosing a place for a hive.
Module 2: Biology of bees. How does a hive work? Structure of the bee family, role of the queen, worker bees and drones. Life cycle of bees.
Module 3: Plants for bees in the city. Types of plants that contribute to honey collection in the urban environment. Seasonality of flowering and the best flower crops.
Module 4: Seasonal work in urban beekeeping. The annual cycle of bee care in the city, features of wintering and spring start.
Module 5: Knowledge of different bee breeds and their characteristics. Safety precautions when working with bees.
Module 6: Using modern technologies to control the condition of hives, monitor bees and collect honey.
Module 7: Developing skills in selling bee products. Study of market trends and promotion of own products.
Module 8: Economic and legal aspects of beekeeping: registration of apiaries, sale of products, certification of honey.
Practical modules:
Module 1: Overview of bee colonies, bee care, including disease prevention and parasite control.
Module 2: Practical harvesting of honey, wax, propolis and other products.
Module 3: Carrying out seasonal work in the apiary (spring, summer, autumn bee care).
